Tip no. 1: Hand wash instead of washing machine
It is tempting to simply throw dirty sneakers into the washing machine, but it's not a great idea. Hot temperatures and spinning can cause the adhesive to loosen, the shoes to discolour or the sole to crack. Instead, hand-wash the sneakers with a brush. This also applies to laces! Use circular motions with the brush and a small amount of shampoo until foam forms. Then wash off with lukewarm water and dab with a towel.
Tip no. 2: Detergent & toothpaste
Another method to clean your white sneakers is to use white toothpaste, dishwashing liquid, a clean toothbrush, water and a clean towel. Soak the toothbrush in warm water and put a swab of detergent on it. Then apply to the shoes and massage in. Then dab off the foam and repeat the same with the toothpaste. Let the sneakers dry for a few hours and you'll see that it works wonders.
Tip no. 3: Baking soda
You can also clean your sneakers with baking soda. This home remedy is ideal for cleaning white shoes. You will need the baking soda, colourless washing-up liquid, a clean toothbrush, a little water and a dry cloth. Mix the baking powder 1:1 with the detergent, then apply the mixture to the shoe in a circular motion with the toothbrush until it foams. Wipe off the foam and let the sneakers dry.
