1. The '95' was not always called '95

The Air Max 95 didn't get its name until the late 90s. When the pair we now all know as 'Air Max 95' first came out, the box simply said AIR MAX. Then the 1997 boxes said either AIR MAX SC or AIR TOTAL MAX SC.

SC supposedly stood for Sports Classic, as opposed to the earlier SC on the Bo Jacksons basketball shoes, where the abbreviation was supposed to stand for Strength and Conditioning. This of course became very confusing when the Bo Jackson was released within the Sports Classic series.

The name AIR TOTAL MAX SC was then given to other premium editions and around 1999, most of the labels on the boxes read AIR MAX 95.

2. You thought you were a big fan?

So you thought you'd seen it all, from huge shoe closets (rooms) to Nike/sneaker tattoos? Well, one person decided to add one on top here. You can't see it in all its glory in the photo: There's a flyer in the 'Comet Red' colorway of the Air Max 95. Here you can see Eric Clapton and designer Hiroshi Fujiwara posing in front of the plane.

3. The shoe has managed to cause an uproar

On 12 May 2000, the Air Max 95 briefly managed to cause a small uproar in the UK. It all started when a segment on British consumer rights on a TV programme called Watchdog, addressed and highlighted the problem of the shoe's squeaky Air Bubbles.

Supposedly, many people who owned one of these (many, many) defective pairs could confirm the very annoying noise that was made with every step.

These 'aggrieved' owners were encouraged by the shoe report to finally let go of their frustration and so they took their shoes to a Foot Locker back in Leeds, where the situation quickly turned physical. One police officer was actually injured and eight people were arrested.

"Dozens of customers arrived at the Foot Locker store, in the St John's shopping center, on Friday clutching sneakers - of all ages - and demanding new ones. Staff refused to comply, tempers became frayed and the police were called. By noon the shopping center was closed."

If you want to get yourself an Air Max 95 today, we can tell you with great certainty that you won't have these problems 😉!

4. 'Special' models of the Nike Air Max 95

The Nike Air Max 95' has received many new and modified editions over the years in order to surpass or represent the legendary model in a special way. We would like to say very carefully here that some versions may not have quite served this purpose….

Um… I mean, do we really need to say anything about it? Despite the iconic use of the OG colours and the striking lines of the 95s, this model isn't exactly an upgrade for us. These Bat boots from Zen Venti are pretty interesting though, what do you say? The shoes actually came out in 2007, but weren't often seen on the street.

For a second at the beginning of the 21st century, it seemed as if zips were the new way. Why use laces when you can simply close shoes with a zip? Designers must have thought so too, because in 2001 an Air Max 95 with a zip hit the shelves.

As always, when it comes to fashion, it is of course a matter of taste what you personally like and what you don't - and that's a good thing!

5. The OG 'Neon' colorway was released over 10 times

Having originally launched in 1995, the pair returned to the sneaker scene in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015 and most recently 2020.
