Last weekend, the 73rd NBA All Star Game took place at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. During this annual event, the NBA's top players play against each other in a friendly competition.
After criticism of the 2023 edition, fans were hoping for a more exciting (and less friendly) game this year. However, this was not the case. A record 397 points were scored. Impressive, you would think, but this was then down to the mediocre defence of both teams. The trainers, on the other hand, were a great success. Here are some highlights from the 2024 NBA All Star Game.
The court
The 2024 NBA All Star Game was held in Indianapolis on a very unique playing field. More than a week and a half before the game, the NBA was unveiling the floor of Lucas Oil Stadium. From start to finish, the court was illuminated by LED lights that could track the players' steps and actions.
Devin Booker in the Nike Book 1
Another highlight of the match was Devin Booker, point guard for the Phoenix Suns. The player debuted his own silhouette at Nike in 2023; the Book 1. The trainer combines a classic design with performance DNA.
During the game, Booker was seen in the recently released colourway of the Book 1; the 'Light Orewood Brown'.
LeBron James' tribute to Deion Sanders
LeBron James played his 20th All Star Game this year in a very special sneaker. The Laker's player was seen wearing a never-before-seen pair of Nike LeBron 21s. The sneaker takes inspiration from a shoe worn by one of his childhood heroes, American football coach and former player Deion Sanders.
Jayson Tatum debuts Air Jordan colorway
Boston Celtics' player Jayson Tatum debuted a very unique colourway of the Air Jordan Tatum 2. The dynamic silhouette appeared in a lilac colourway dressed with grey details. Signatures of Tatum and his teammates were placed all over the sneaker.
The 'Momma's Boy' colorway was also seen during the NBA match. The sneaker will most likely drop at Nike in the coming weeks of 2024.
Phoenix Suns' Kevin Durant in the KD 4 'Galaxy'
Another striking sneaker that appeared on the field was the KD 4 'Galaxy' on Durant's feet. Introduced in 2012, the sneaker has a striking colourway. The model comes dressed in a silver colour. Orange details and a translucent outsole give the pair a modern look.
Slam Dunk Contest
Finally, perhaps the highlight of the evening: the Slam Dunk contest. During this match, players are challenged to dunk the basketball through the net as hard as possible. The LED lighting in the floor adds a twist to the whole ensemble. Watch the highlights below.
