Nike: Better is Temporary

The name of that new book, a publication by Phaidon, comes from a conversation with the John Hoke. John Hoke is Nike's Chief Design Officer and of course he knows better than anyone how Nike's design works. In a conversation the Chief Design Officer said "I fundamentally believe that the central thesis of Nike is 'The best is temporary at best''. In doing so, he explained that the best is temporary at best, which is why Nike continues to innovate.

The book comes with five different chapters, each dealing with inspiring and revealing details about how Nike looks at different aspects of design.

For example, the first chapter, called "The Voice of The Athlete", will focus on how important the collaboration with athletes is for Nike in both research, innovation and design, resulting in better products for both professional and everyday athletes. Another chapter we look forward to is chapter 5. It shows and describes a number of groundbreaking innovations in the field of sustainability.

The design of the book

The book itself is also about sustainability and design. After all, it is minimally packed, which means that fewer superfluous materials are needed. Two openwork cardboard covers can be bound in a single layer nonwoven jacket that will protect the contents well. This way the book can serve as a manual for innovation and inspiration for different generations.

Nike: Better is Temporary will have a broad release on 25 January. Good news is that it is already available at phaidon.com and therefore a perfect gift for under the Christmas tree. The book costs €79.95. Check the Nike News site for more info.
