Popular Nike and Jordan models given a skate variant

In the world of trainers, where style meets functionality, few names are as prominent as Nike. The sports brand has built up an impressive collection of classic models over the years. What is notable, however, is that Nike has been increasingly giving their iconic designs a skate makeover.

The most recent example of this remarkable pattern is the skate variant of the Nike Air Darwin. Recently, the very first images surfaced of the expected Supreme x Nike SB Air Darwin Low, where we see a modern interpretation of the iconic OG retro basketball shoe from the 1990s.

But the Nike Air Darwin is thus not the only model that has made the transition to the skate world. Let's take a look at some of the notable Nike and Jordan models that have been given an SB variant!

Nike SB Air Jordan 1

1985 was the year of the release of the Air Jordan 1 and a turning point in the world of basketball. But a few years after its initial release, the Air Jordan 1 also began to become a notable presence in skateboard culture.

Indeed, skaters were looking for a trainer that would offer both cushioning and support while also standing out with vibrant colours. After well-known icons like Lance Mountain, Mickey Reyes, and Bryce Kanigths started skateboarding in Air Jordan 1s, this started getting others' attention and gave birth to a legend.

From that moment on, these two cultures have constantly crossed paths and together have written a rich history. A great example is the Nike SB X Air Jordan 1 OG 'La to Chicago', which pays homage to the two cities that gave birth to skateboarding and greatness.

Nike SB Air Jordan 4

De Nike SB Air Jordan 4 honours one of the most memorable collaborations in the world of sneakers. Namely, the one between Sandy Bodecker and Tinker Hatfield. With this trainer, Nike SB and Jordan Brand have joined forces to adapt the design of the AJ4 so you can skateboard all day.

The release we all immediately think of is, of course, the Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 'Pine Green'. For this release, the '89 shape has been brought back around the toe box for an improved fit. There is also a focus on the upper, with flexible plastic details to keep the shoes supple during long sessions. With Nike Air, you are also ready for all skate tricks and enjoy optimal traction thanks to the use of gum rubber.

So the Nike SB Air Jordan 4 is the ultimate tribute to a legendary duo, offering skateboarders a shoe that is both stylish and functional!

Perhaps one of the most iconic skate shoes of all time, the Nike SB Dunk has a rich history in the skate community. Originally designed as a basketball shoe, the Dunk was quickly embraced by skateboarders for its durability and style.

The SB version of the Dunk was designed specifically with skateboarders in mind, with improved cushioning and support. But what really makes the Nike SB Dunk stand out are the numerous collaborations and colourful designs that have been released.

As a result, it has become a cult favourite among skaters and trainer enthusiasts. This shoe is a celebration of individuality and creativity and an absolute must-have for anyone who wants to express their personal style!

Nike SB Blazer

Although the Nike Blazer was originally introduced in 1973, the SB Blazer did not make its appearance until 2005. Designed by Lance Mountain, the Nike SB Blazer is tailored specifically for skateboarding. This skate variant stands out not only in terms of appearance but also in terms of functionality. Equipped with SB Zoom cushioning, this shoe is ideal for skateboarding, where comfort and support are crucial. Moreover, the upper is often made of durable suede and has a customised fit to meet the requirements of skateboarders.

Nike SB Air Trainer 1

Nike SB Air Trainer 1 history

The Nike Air Trainer, which transitioned into an SB model, was originally the very first Nike cross-training shoe. Skateboarders were eventually drawn to the Air Trainer 1 for the same reasons as other athletes: its durability and versatility were undeniable.

The road to the Nike SB Air Trainer 1 began with Savier, the forefather father of Nike SB, launching a pro model for skateboarder Tim O'Connor. With the advent of the Nike SB era, it wasn't long before Nike's skateboarding sublabel created a version of the Air Trainer 1 designed specifically for skaters.

In 2003, the world saw the introduction of the SB Air Trainer 1. OG sneakerheads no doubt still recognise releases like the 'Paul Brown' and HUF's 'Gold Digger'. While this shoe may not have achieved the same iconic status as the SB Dunk, it does have a dedicated fan base. This is evidenced by the positive response to collaborations like the one with Polar Skate Co. in 2019 and the 'Chlorophyll' colorway in 2020.

Nike SB Air Trainer 2

After the Air Trainer 1, the very first Nike SB Air Trainer 2 was introduced in 2007. This took place thanks to a special collaboration between Nike SB and the iconic skate brand Supreme.

This version debuted in a striking 'Black' colorway. During the same year and early 2008, additional, non-collaborative colorways were also presented to the public. Consider, for instance, the 'Metallic Gold/Reflect Silver' and the 'Black Royal Blue'.

Twenty years later, after its debut on the basketball court, the SB Air Force 2 was introduced for skating. The original Air Force 2 was a favourite among basketball players because of its cushioning and support. When Nike decided to adapt this design for skateboarding, these elements, among others, combined with improved grip, made it a huge success in the skate world as well.

Like the SB Air Trainer 2, this sneaker also received a boost from the Supreme brand. This collaboration and the different colour variants, soon made it a cult favourite among skaters and trainer lovers.

Nike SB Delta Force

Nike first introduced the Delta Force in 1986, around the same time the Dunk and Terminator made their debuts. This trainer was initially marketed as a basketball shoe.

But since Nike SB took the model in hand, it has evolved into an esteemed skate shoe. The first release of the SB version took place in the summer of 2004.

Under the wings of Nike SB, the shoe underwent a transformation, with additions such as a half-padded tongue, Zoom Air technology and extra cushioning. This transformed the SB Delta Force into a skate shoe with improved performance and comfort.

Whether you're a passionate skateboarder or just love the style of skate trainers, Nike is sure to have something to suit your needs.

Stay tuned for the latest releases and updates as it looks like Nike SB has a lot more in store for the future!
